The Austrian hydrogen strategy

The Austrian federal government has set the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2040 as part of the challenges surrounding climate change. Climate-neutral hydrogen is seen as an important enabler to drive forward the energy transition through various technologies and applications, even in areas that are difficult to decarbonize. Hydrogen plays an important role in a significant reduction in energy consumption and a sustainable supply based on renewable energy sources across all sectors—from electricity and heat supply to industry and mobility.

To initiate the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy, the government presented the National Hydrogen Strategy in June 2022 under the leadership of the BMK and BMAW.
